This 1986 National Advisory Council on AIDS (NACAIDS) advertisment actually came out the year before the famous 'Grim Reaper' Ad. This ad promotes HIV/AIDS and safe sex in the Australian community.
This advertisement makes for an especially interesting comparison with the ‘Grim Reaper‘ ad. They both are promoting AIDS awareness in the broader Australian community. What is interesting about this Ad is that it exclusively represents heterosexual couples (indeed a diverse range of couples), and avoids scare tactics.
The ad addresses myths and misconceptions surrounding HIV/AIDS and actively promotes safe sex through condom use.
Watching this alongside the Grim Reaper ad allows viewers to compare the style of messaging, and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each.
