July 28th is World Hepatitis Day.

It is estimated that there are almost half a million Australians living with hepatitis B or C. Close to 1,000 Australians die each year due to viral hepatitis; so urgent action is required to prevent these deaths. Ensuring all Australians with chronic hepatitis B and C are diagnosed, undergo regular liver check-ups and receive appropriate treatment is critical to avert a liver disease crisis in Australia.

There are a number of ways Hepatitis can be transmitted including through sexual transmission. So always practice safe sex and use a condom.

‘It’s time for action on viral hepatitis’ is the theme for World Hepatitis Day 2015 in Australia. Time for Action – test, check, treat.
