On a warm sunny Sunday, YEAH made a triumphant return to the 2016 Midsumma Carnival, the official launch day of Midsumma Festival – Melbourne’s annual queer celebration festival!

I was lucky enough to be joined by Agents Kassy and Maddie as part of the inclusive Youth Space – where we engaged with young people at the festival about sexual health, consent, and respectful relationships. Around 100,000 people swarm Alexandra Gardens every year for the event, the majority of them being young people, so this was a great chance for our Agents to get amongst their peers and talk everything safe sex!

We had a full day of youth participation around sexual health education. The ever popular ‘Wheely Sexy’ was the main attraction with plenty of young people coming to spin the wheel and answer questions around sexual health. Kassy, one of our Melbourne Local Leaders said It was nice to be able to speak to LGBTI people about their experiences and answer any questions they had about sexual health”.

Lucky winners walked away with a Red Aware cap, and we had tonnes of free Red Aware condom tins to give away.

Our condom demo always draws a great crowd to see who has the skills to put on a condom correctly.

Lots of Melbourne’s queer youth left the festival sporting Red Aware hats, carrying free condom tins, and covered in temporary tattoos! It was a sensational day with a really positive response from the crowd, and we look forward to seeing out the festival at Pride March.

Watch out for our Agents marching from 2pm down Fitzroy Street in St Kilda.
